Message: just planed a bloodgood japanese maple tree yesterday. some of the leaves or curling up. is this because it is almost October and they are going to fall off? Do they always curl up before they fall off? or is something wrong with this tree?

Message: I have an Acer which has been beautiful all the years I have had it. Last year 2010,it produced flowers and seeds for the first time, so I believe the tree is now fully matured.

This spring 2011, it was beautiful again, and produced more flowers and seeds than last year.

It is now August, and the leaves look like they do in late autumn, the leaves are curling up and dieing, and many of the branches are bare. I am concerned that the tree might be dieing, or is this due to the very hot dry spring we had. There are no new leaves appearing. Do you know if it will it recover again next year. I had this tree since it was just a 1ft tall sapling, and absolutely love the red leaves in spring and summer against the green of the rest of the garden.

I look forward to receiving any advice.
Kind regards
Rose

Message: Hi,

I am interested in the Acer Palmatum Moonfire. However, is it this lovely purply colour all the time or does it start of green and end up purple in the autumn. Also can it be pruned as we dont really want it higher than about 3 - 4 ft high/wide. many thanks

Message: We have two very large Acer Palmatum dissectem ever red that have always been kept in tubs. We have moved in Jan 2011 but repotted these Acers in late autumn last year. They have come out beautifully but on one the edges of the leaves are brown. We presume that maybe this is due to lack of enough water. Is this right or is there another reason???

Message: Hi, we have an acer ever red in a large pot and have moved to Austria from south east England. Are we right to cover it with the fleeces that abound here in the garden centres? And does it still need watering in winter? We are in the Alps and are snow covered December til April. Thanks for any advice. Carolyn
