On site is another nursery,
Avondale. Sadly, it was closed on
the day we visited but we hope to visit it shortly. The opening
hours currently are Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays). Note that
the nursery is also closed for lunch 12.30 to 2.00.
It is closed during winter.
For 2.00 (or free if you buy any plants from Avondale), you can
wander round the small display garden. It's packed with plants that
are for sale at the nursery.
The bonus of the display garden is that you can see a wide range
of perennials, all in a natural setting.
Each plant is labelled (Clematis recta Purpurea on the left) so
if you see something you fancy, you also know what name it has.
Russell's Garden Centre, Coventry
(page 2)
Our shopping basket shows that prices for plants and garden
accessories are a little below the average.
There was no aquatics or pets shops at Russell's as would be expected
for nurseries of this size.
We revisited the garden centre in December 2008 and Potting Shed cafe had been
re-opened after refurbishment. It's an interesting small cafe so we have reviewed it on a
separate page, click here for more details.
We would not recommend this garden centre for the disabled. The ground
was not always even, and parts of the site would be inaccessible for a
wheel chair. The refurbishment in 2008 is designed to correct this
problem.
Not inspected.
If the display gardens (see below) were anything to judge by, it
should be a worthwhile visit.
