Pruning Greenhouse Tomatoes

Many tomato varieties will grow successfully in greenhouses and outside, although many have been bred for one or the other.

We give our personal selection of varieties that are worth growing in greenhouses. We have included cherry and full sized tomatoes, plum tomatoes and beefsteak tomatoes to give you a choice.

The old established varieties are named below but we encourage you to grow more modern, disease resistant varieties.

SHIRLEY
Type: Indeterminate / cordon / vine
Greenhouse Type: Cold or moderate heat
Description: Medium sized fruits with that superb, deep red, classic tomato colour. A good round shape with a fresh taste, lots of juice. Ideal for slicing into salads. This is an F1 variety that is much favoured by exhibitors because of its colour and shape.

ALICANTE
Type: Indeterminate / cordon / vine
Greenhouse Type: Cold or moderate heat
Description: An older variety, similar to Moneymaker. Undeniably it looks good and is very reliable. But there are many better tasting varieties around now.

GARDENERS DELIGHT
Type: Indeterminate / cordon / vine
Greenhouse Type: Cold
Description: The pick of the older varieties in our opinion. Round and red, the tomatoes are just a bit larger than cherry tomatoes nowadays - two bite sized! One of the most reliable tomato varieties ever grown.

CHERRY TOMATO GREENHOUSE VARIETIES

These varieties produce small, bite-sized tomatoes which are very sweet.

Greenhouse Type: Cold
Description: Our favourite tomato variety. Rock solid reliability with the sweetest, small gold / yellow tomatoes.

SNOWBERRY
Type: Indeterminate / cordon / vine

BEEFSTEAK TOMATO GREENHOUSE VARIETIES

BLACK KRIM
