Weigela

Weigela is another never-fail plant that continues to be popular. It is a deciduous evergreen shrub, tolerant of a wide variety of soil conditions and easy to grow. Its attractiveness is no doubt due its appeal over three seasons.  It grows only to 1.5 m, perhaps a little more, bearing funnel shaped flowers in clusters from spring to late summer.Leaves are a fresh, green colour, changing to brilliant reds and golds in autumn.

Weigela florida ‘Minuet’

Weigela originated in temperate East Asia and was brought to Great Britain in the 19th Century. Garden forms are hybrid forms of Weigela florida, a vigorous, spreading plant with deep, rose-pink flowers. The variety, ‘Variagata’, has leaves edged with cream, making it of interest after flowering is past.
