       Protect Container Plants

                   Hard
frosts can cause compost in containers to freeze and crack the
container. The plants may well be OK, but the pot will need to be
                    replaced.  A
simple way to protect containers against frost is to fill a dustbin
liner with shredded newspaper and wrap the liner around the container.
Secure the liner to the container with string or wire. Simple, and it
                      works. If
you want to protect container plants from the frost, lightly pack straw
around the branches and cover with polythene. Loosely tie string round
the polythene to keep it in place.
