The premier gardening information source
HOUSE PLANTS
The display of house plants was impressive with lots of healthy
flowering and evergreen plants on offer. Individual care instructions and
information on ideal growing
conditions were excellent.
The prices of the house plants represented good value. INDOOR SALES AREA
As well as plants, Flowerland stock a good range of garden
accessories, gifts and cards in the indoor sales area.
On offer was an extensive range of high quality garden and
conservatory furniture. Prices were competitive.
On site were Pictures Plus
who offer a particularly comprehensive framing service. Not only do they
professionally frame pictures but they also cater for medals, football
shirts and other mementos.
AQUATICS AND PETS
The pet shop supplied a full range of pet accessories and feeds. They
also stock a small number of birds and small pets.
EATS OF EDEN FOOD HALL
The Food Hall at Flowerland is courtesy of Eats of Eden and
we were truly impressed with the quality of their meat and fish.
To illustrate the food on offer we'll review their meat, but the
same goes for all the food they have for sale.
The storage conditions go back to the days when meat was stored for a
fuller flavour and more tenderness. At the same time modern technology
ensure even temperatures. The black pudding is hand made and the chicken
is free range, often sourced locally.
When we looked at the steaks for sale at the counter, they were a much
deeper red compared to supermarket meat. A sure sign that Eats of Eden
are selling quality meat. Just ask Julian, Steve or Jeremy for more
information and they will be happy to oblige. Ask them for a quick look
at the meat storage and preparation area and the will proudly show you
round.
We have first hand experience of the quality of the meat because we
bought some. It was excellent, definitely well above average quality.
CAFE / RESTAURANT AT FLOWERLAND GARDEN CENTRE
The cafe was spacious, light and airy. There was seating both in
the cafe and outside. The layout was attractive with parquet
flooring and wooden tables. The food was excellent, being supplied
by Eats of Eden. On our visit there were five main meals on offer at
around 6.50. The food was on display with helpful staff to assist
you.
There were lots of snack meals and cakes at reasonable
prices. the coffee and tea were excellent. The emphasis is on
high quality food at reasonable prices. We recommend this cafe
very highly.
DISABLED FACILITIES TOILETS CAR PARKING DIRECTIONS AND CONTACT
Flowerland Garden Centre, Bourne End
(page 2)
Maidenhead Aquatics provide a very attractive and well stocked shop for
all your aquatics needs. As always, the range is extensive, the quality
of live fish and accessories is excellent.
With very few exceptions all the meat is hung and prepared on
the premises. The beef is dry aged on average for three weeks,
the pork and lamb is hung for three days.
The majority of the aisles were wide enough inside and out for wheel
chair access with mostly solid surfaces. Some small areas of the outside
plants areas were a bit narrow for wheelchair users but not many.
Wheelchairs were available at the front door for free.
The toilets were clean and with no queues. There were also toilets with
disabled facilities. Mother and toddler facilities were available.
The car park had flat even surfaces. At the time of our visit there
were sufficient places but only just! This garden centre is obviously
becoming increasingly popular.

SUMMARY
We were impressed with the Bourne End garden centre. The plants were
high quality, with a hardy plant guarantee and many of them are grown by
Flowerland. The staff were helpful and approachable. The indoor sales
area was well laid out and the inclusion of Maidenhead Aquatics and
Pictures Plus was a definite plus!
Eats of Eden Food Hall provide traditionally prepared and stored meat, fish, cheese and other foods of the highest quality. The cafe was attractively laid out and offered excellent food at good prices.
THE LOCAL PUB
Turn right out of Bourne End garden centre and two minutes
walk down the road is the Garibaldi pub. It has lots of old
world charm and character.
They sell a good range of real ales, the best being, in our
opinion, Ruddles County. There is seating indoors and outside.
Well worth a visit after shopping at Bourne End garden centre.
