The premier gardening information source
This is a totally independent GardenAction opinion of the
Cleeve Nursery in the Bristol area. Cleeve Nursery is a family run business for the past 24
years. The owner, Alan Down, writes regularly for the Western Daily
press. Copies of some of his recent articles are on display in the
covered area of the nursery. PLANTS
The outdoor plant area is well designed, attractive
and well kept. The range of plants is very good for a nursery of
this size and includes a great range of ornamental trees.
Cleeve grow around 50% of all the plants they sell
but of all the hardy plants sold they grow around 75%. Not surprisingly the quality of the
plants is excellent.
There was a good range of potted aquatic baskets for
sale, good for water garden gardeners. The signs (click left for
larger picture) are very helpful and allow plants to be located
quickly.
As well as stocking a full range of the common plants
and shrubs, Cleeve also stock a few unusual ones. An example is the
Wollemi Pines. These are great foliage plants and rarely found in other
garden centres. Click the Wollemi
Pine website for more information about this unusual plant. Unusually for a nursery, Cleeve offer a 2 year guarantee
on their hardy plants. This shows they have confidence in the quality of
their plants. About 60% of the outdoor area was paved with the
remainder being reasonably firm gravel. The aisles were wide enough to
allow easy access around the plants. PRICES
